The Stomach Bug (the reason this daily poem is delayed)
——————————————————–
Energy
drains from my body
like the light
leaves the day
slowly and steadily
destined to return.

Oncidium
—————————————————-
There hangs an orchid on the wall
Yellow flowers not shy at all
Looking closely I’m sure you’ll see
Beauty even though they are small
*
Squinting hard you may even see
The curvy lines of a lady
Head to toe in a cancan dress
With lots of personality
*
This may be a stretch I confess
To see in a bloom a fancy dress
And lady from the cabaret
It’s fun to picture nonetheless.

Salix gracilistyla ‘Mount Aso’
—————————————————-
Small fuzzy blooms tinged with dark pink
Surprising cheerful winter flowers
Softer to the touch than you think
I could just pet them for hours
*
This plant is a new one for me
One I am glad I got to see
I think this is one for the yard
Avoiding petting will be hard.

Oh Brown Shower Spider
————————————–
Oh brown shower spider
What do you do all day in here?
Catching insects I never knew were there?
Spinning webs or raising a large spider family?
Enjoying the humidity in this woodstove dried home?
Forming an army of silent patient shower spiders?
Waiting for the just perfect person to bite
to become the next world saving super hero?
Oh brown shower spider, you are welcome here.

(A Shape Poem – as seen in the picture)

Cinderella
——————————————-
Perhaps because I could never
find shoes I liked that would fit me
size 12 and cute, I mean never,
*
out of frustration it hit me;
if I want colorful footwear
departing the mall is the key.
*
To procure some footwear with flair
I need to get to the greenhouse.
I find all the shoes I want there.
*
Don’t have to match these shoes to blouse,
slipper orchids are quite divine
just need these shoes from the hothouse.
*
To them I make a quick beeline,
They are sure to fit every time.

Life is Sweet
——————————————————–
Why do you let your dreams
Settle at the bottom of your life
Under the weight of the day to day
Like an unstirred blob of honey
At the bottom of a warm mug of tea
Not sweetening the drink
Not making a difference
Resulting in something less enjoyable
Than it could be?

Bright Spots

Winter flowers bloom
Colorful
Moment in gray day.

Dreary winter day
Rains, gray clouds, dirty puddles
Terra firma sunshine

Long Overdue
——————————————————–
Shoe in my left hand I am applying
polish, thinking fondly of
my dad’s hardworking hands.

JUBILATION
——————————————————–
In auto
Not to obtain tuna loin
Not to nab a banjo
Not to jail to bail out Aunt
Not to toil at lab job
But a jubilant jaunt to libation.
