Honk if you Exist

_____________________________________

Honk honk geese fly in a vee southbound

If you stop and think it is profound

You gather family and friends around

Exist to trek wholly weatherbound

(A Bumper Sticker Poem)

Bumper Sticker Poems – a form I created, inspired by cento and golden shovel poetry, with the following guidelines:

  • Using a bumper sticker as inspiration use the words in the bumper sticker as the first word in each line of the poem
  • The theme of the poem may or may not have anything to do with the message of the sticker
  • Title should be the words of the bumper sticker
  • Should be rhymed
  • 9 syllable lines
  • Number of lines depends on number of words on the bumper sticker

Autumn Snowfall

_____________________________________

An autumn snowstorm has all the allure

Burgundy and golden leaves fall

With the unique snowflakes

A surprising

Artwork

Berserk

Mesmerizing

Looks like nature’s mistake

Colors mixed with no color at all

A collection of all nature’s grandeur

Consistently proving she’s not a bore

She just can’t help but to enthrall

Puts all the time she takes

Slowly devising

Field work

Fireworks

Emphasizing

The seasonal outbreaks

Bright sun, fall leaves, gray rains, snow squalls

An autumn snowstorm has all the allure.

Everyday I’m Shufflin’

_____________________________________

Did anyone notice the line

In the leaves as they shuffled through

Amazed at what water can do

As it cascades from the roofline

Nature’s artwork so sublime

Only for temporary view

Until new weather does ensue

A new masterpiece reflects time

Psithurism

_____________________________________

They say this word is obsolete

But I don’t know how that can be

When it creates a thought complete

About the woods surrounding me

Rainy Day

_____________________________________

Heavy chunky rainclouds rumble

For my bumbershoot I bumble

And raincoat

*

Lightning makes me feel humble

Into my rainboots I stumble

In rainfall

*

This weather makes others grumble

Into the puddles I’ll tumble

In rainstorms

*

During my commute I mumble

Liquid windshield world a jumble

The rainscape

*

Do not let the camera tumble

To catch the fleeting I fumble

A rainbow

Severe weather events

Flooding, blizzards, coating ice

Hurricanes, drought, pelting hail

*

Welcome weather events

Heatwave break, thundersnow, gentle soaking rains

Thunderstorms, inches of powder, clear starry skies

*

All of this happened … but not as you predicted

The Four Seasons

_____________________________________

Orion stands up in the sky

Silently unique snowflakes fly

Woodstove full and warmly glowing

With each moment days are growing, lips and skin dry

*

Up in the sky Leo now sits

New jeweltone flowers are sunlit

Songbirds are back to raise their young

Cleansing raindrops to dance among, warming a bit.

*

Scorpio rises up at night

Flowers everywhere glowing bright

Arm sleeves rolled up over shoulders

Lone bonfire ember smolders, cool sheets just right

*

Pegasus marks the shorter days

Trees put on colorful displays

Through fallen leaves hiking boots crunch

Birds and butterflies by the bunch migrate away.
