Traditions

_____________________________________

Holidays roll around

Anticipated but always more quickly

Than you thought, and with them

Come an avalanche of rituals, customs, stories.

What is your tradition?

*

In all the chaos and stress

And all of the change-up of daily routine

What we do the same each year calms us in the chaos.

My calm is making cranberry orange bread from scratch

Hand chopping, hand mixing, warm and heart warming.

Wild for Salmon

_____________________________________

Wild salmon is from the great cold pacific

The fisherpeople there are quite prolific

Know what I make of it will be terrific.

Dolloped with shallots tomatoes lemon squeeze

And fresh herbs from my garden grown with great ease

This recipe seems it will be sure to please

This filet is so large I can make six meals

With good fats and nutrients, it’s food that heals

Healthy sustainable food has great appeal.

Purple Beans

_____________________________________

The purple beans are ready for harvest

From long vines upon the tired old fence

Of course there’s inspection with a taste test

Please believe the fresh-picked flavor is intense

Have to be sure not to eat the whole lot

Before I can get them into the pot.

In the Kitchen

_____________________________________

I love to cook from scratch

Each new recipe is a chance to learn

For me there really is no match

*

Can’t wait to get it down the hatch

My calories I earn

I love to cook from scratch

*

Making cookies batch after batch

Trying not to burn

For me there really is no match

*

Lowering mixer top, locking the latch

For homemade food I yearn

I love to cook from scratch

*

To a good recipe I will attach

And continue to return

For me there really is no match

*

Homemade food they will snatch

From processed, it’s easy to discern

I love to cook from scratch

For me there really is no match

6 Pack

_____________________________________

Opted to take home a six pack

My will power shut down

When I spied them

Then I tried them

For these they are renown

*

Better than any from my town

Lovingly deep-fried them

Each made from scratch

Batch after batch

Some with fruit inside them.

*

The icing identified them

I know there’s no match

Cooling on a rack

Worth a greenback

I’ll put them down the hatch.

*

My buckle I’ll have to detach

Oh please cut me some slack

Not a let down

I smile don’t frown

and know I will be back.

Pistachios

—————————————–

Plate full of pistachio shells

Those salty nuts are delicious

On the calories I won’t dwell

But at least they are nutritious.

*

At eating these nuts I excel

The cracking gets repetitious

It’s at least one thing I do well

And they say they are nutritious.

*

Take them away and I will yell

To share them I am judicious

There really is no parallel

I promise they are nutritious.

*

The number eaten I can’t tell

When few are left it gets vicious

Eat too many and feel unwell

But at least they are nutritious.
