Winterizing

_____________________________________

So clever are these furry squirrels

Tails twitch, swirl, gathering food

So rude, around branches they twirl

Hurling leaves, nuts from altitude

Barking with attitude, spunky

Chunky things, feeder invaders

Compost raiders, birdseed junkies

Charm school flunkies, hawk evaders.

Everyday I’m Shufflin’

_____________________________________

Did anyone notice the line

In the leaves as they shuffled through

Amazed at what water can do

As it cascades from the roofline

Nature’s artwork so sublime

Only for temporary view

Until new weather does ensue

A new masterpiece reflects time

Stoneleigh

_____________________________________

A large gray mansion built of Wissahickon schist

With 45 rooms embellished in wood grain

Is more impressive when the details aren’t missed.

Easy to be distracted by size insane

In the small details the real wonder exists

The charm of stone flowers is hard to explain

The home’s grandeur is the point some may insist

It’s these small stone blooms that keep it from mundane

Natural Art

_____________________________________

As intricate as the patterns on a quilt

Subtle color, fine beauty beyond belief

Like an old stained glass window complete with gilt

Fascinating as a headdress on a chief

As complicated as the new building built

Textured like mosaic or bas relief

Reflecting sunlight like a jewelry box spilt

How can anyone think this is just a leaf?

Iron Lace

_____________________________________

Curved neck I gaze up to the cloudy sky

Through lacy gazebo roof most ornate

Dark black wrought iron perforates

The leaden expectant clouds floating by

Their cargo drops, I am no longer dry

A blurry liquid world the rain creates

Dull hues brighten as it precipitates

Best find cover, thunder rumbles nearby
