Crocus

_____________________________________

Up through old brown crunchy leaves

Emerges a bloom of gold

Up through old brown crunchy leaves

*

Undeterred that it’s still cold

A small island of beauty

Emerges a bloom of gold

*

Petite bloom is a cutie

Nectar and pollen for bees

A small island of beauty

*

Glinting far beneath the trees

A bright harbinger of spring

Nectar and pollen for bees

*

Unwary of what spring will bring

First of many on the way

A bright harbinger of spring.

*

Petals open in the day

Up through old brown crunchy leaves

First of many on the way

Up through old brown crunchy leaves.

February 19

Crocus

_____________________________________

The calendar whispers,

“it is still winter here

in the northern hemisphere.”

*

The warm air envelopes

encouraging the soft hum of bees buzzing

hinting to something otherwise.

*

Countless bright purple crocus rise

to scream loudly

“spring is on the way!”
