Loop Trails
Starting and ending in the same place
Everything new along the way
Views from many directions
Nothing revisited
Surprises around
Each new bend yet
The end is
Still the
Same

Point-to-Point Trail
Traveling in just one direction
No retracing or revisits
Only one chance for success
Every obstacle new
Just one perspective
Discovering
Half of life
As you
Move.

Out & Back Trails
Out and Back Trails through rocky woods
A chance to revisit challenge
Time to see beauty again
Ending where you began
Confronting past
Obstacles
Prepared
Now

An early morning bike ride
under an industrial sunrise
with smoke in the jet stream
hazing up the skies.

Hummingbird
Swing
Dancing
Within the
Small dark corners
Around the backyard
Chasse to glean silken floss
Rock-step to a mound of moss
Choreography
Of Nest building
Inside soon
Fledglings
Swing

Apotropaic
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Read a new word, not sure how to say it
Apotropaic
Googled and found out it’s a way to say
Keeps evil away
This word’s apt for sage and crucifix
And bulbs of garlic
Some will say they are purely symbolic
While others may believe quite sincerely
What I do know is the meaning quite clearly
Apotropaic keeps evil away and bulbs of garlic

Success(ion)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A seed lands, crack expands
Roots making life from hard rock
Water feeds new plant needs
In the shade of a great hemlock
Boulder becomes mineral crumbs
Roots, rock, rain in wedlock
Through sun and storms new soil forms
The tale of a forest epoch.
Dots dashes spots splashes
Patterns of Morse code for the bees
Moths and flies fly from skies
Descending from up in the trees
Finding sweet nectar treat
At the tail end of winter freeze
Early blooms fragrant fumes
Wake insects from their winter zzzz
Lichens
A pale green glossy sheen
With some rough patches here and there
Foliose, Fruticose
Living symbols of good clean air
Dwell on boles and phone poles
Employing support anywhere
Algal fused with fungal
Look for them nearly everywhere
