Give Geese a Chance

_____________________________________

Some people think these geese a pest

Going so far to raid their nest.

Now I know they can be a pain

And if they’re around folks complain.

Honking, eating, pooping machines causing a stink

Need to be eradicated some people think.

*

Give geese a chance, stop and observe

At one time we tried to conserve

These special V-flying creatures

With distinct black and white features.

Living two decades, long flyers, long time romance

Good parents who care for the weak, give geese a chance.

Spring Daze

_____________________________________

The dogwood blooms in early May

Old leaves decay

Soft bees take flight

There’s more sunlight

*

New spring is dressed in subtle hues

Soft pinks, pale blues

Enhancing fast

As months go past

*

With rapid speed the colors shift

The change is swift

From pale to bright

With growing light.

Night Fliers

_____________________________________

Flattened against the house wall

Moths appear on warming nights

Electric duping instinct

Hunkered under bright porch lights

*

Not dull or boring at all

Butterflies with evening flight

Flecked, ruffled each one distinct

Look closely, they will delight.

Wildflower Wander

_____________________________________

With my sweetheart Wandering winded along a

Winding wooded path of

Waving wild flowers in the

Warming weather without

Worry and wearing wonder welcoming the

Wisdom of this wildflower wilderness and

Woodland with towering white oak.

Rainy Day Tattooing

_____________________________________

Gray, rainy Sunday wrist tattooing

Why not? What else would we be doing

On this washout of a day?

Tattooing wrist, Sunday rainy gray

*

Fortitude and patience, creation and onlookers

Curiosities and artwork, WiFi connected appointment bookers

Raindrops and ink spots, a life choice with great magnitude

Onlookers and creation, patience and fortitude

*

Smiles and relief, independence and milestones

Surrounded by insects with gears and deformed bones

This curiosity shop slash tattoo parlor beguiles

Milestones and independence, relief and smiles.

Friendly Wager

Can you believe we won?

Second and third not first

We didn’t bet very much

We only bet when it’s for fun

*

While the funds won weren’t a ton

I always believed my luck cursed

Today we had the magic touch

Betting for the year – we’re done!

*

Ham sandwiches on a soft bun

Plenty of drinks to quench our thirst

Mint juleps and gin fizzes on the hutch

Best derby party? This is the one.

*

Can you believe we won?

Second and third not first

We didn’t bet very much

We only bet when it’s for fun.

Prom Photo Flash Mob in the Garden

_____________________________________

Smiling Parents

Holding hands

In jean shorts and polo shirts

Walking just a few paces behind

Flowing gowns

Heeled shoes

Crisp tuxedos

*

New loves

First loves

Smiling laughing chatting arm in arm

Holding bouquets and hems of dresses

Taking selfies

Group shots

Posing proudly

*

Dodging daffodils

Compacting grass

Please don’t step on the flowers

Sir this is a public garden

Sparkly departures

Firm handshakes

Waving goodbyes

Successful Trip to the Bookstore

_____________________________________

I softly sink into a brand new novel

Patiently paging through all of the chilling chapters

finding free spirits and hopeless heroes

relinquishing reality without worry

Delightful drama, hidden humor

comforting, complex, endlessly engaging

disappearing deeply in clever content.

Beach Body

_____________________________________

The radio speaks to me telling

Telling me to get my body beach ready

Ready for surf and sand and bikinis I suppose

Suppose I am insufficient already

*

But on my commute I begin to ponder

Ponder the needs of going to the shore

Shore ready body doesn’t make the list

List includes towel, sunscreen, money for the store

*

I complete my internal inventory

Inventory needs for a beach ready bod

Bod healthy and happy who can move through water and sand

Beach ready body is about mechanics not facade.
