Modern Convenience

_____________________________________

The seat heat spoils me, no grief – modern convenience, I’m spoiled

Cold days and long days, a relief – on to a warm place, I’ve toiled

Not just for winter, a stress thief – great for long road trips, stress foiled

My Required option, even brief – I’ll always have it, I’m loyal.

Anemone japonica

_____________________________________

White Japanese Anemone blooms

When the days grow shorter

While lighting up garden rooms

Wonderful during the season’s third quarter

*

How lovely are these flowers

Happiness on a stem

Hanging on into colder hours

Heroic late season gem

*

Only people who dare traverse

Onto garden paths in fall

Open their eyes and are immersed

Oddly in the beauty of it all

*

Nearing the end of the season

Nifty leaves change their hues

No they’re not the only reason

Needed to get out and enjoy the view.

Wild for Salmon

_____________________________________

Wild salmon is from the great cold pacific

The fisherpeople there are quite prolific

Know what I make of it will be terrific.

Dolloped with shallots tomatoes lemon squeeze

And fresh herbs from my garden grown with great ease

This recipe seems it will be sure to please

This filet is so large I can make six meals

With good fats and nutrients, it’s food that heals

Healthy sustainable food has great appeal.

Katydid

_____________________________________

Nice try katydid but you are no leaf

Stick in cold pause in the October dawn

In slow motion until the cool is gone

Soaking in the sun’s rays for some relief

Up in the boughs you may never be seen

Down on the bark you’re the only thing green

This time of year the cool morning is brief

As sun steals the chill like a sly thief

You’re a target here now so green on the bark

Sure you were safe but it’s no longer dark

As the day brightens it’s nature’s belief

It’s time to conclude your chirps and your trills

Ending the night of adventures and thrills

‘Til dark katydid, go hide on a leaf

Noisy Neighbor

_____________________________________

Blender buzzes through open door

Flower fragrance fills the hallway

Private phone calls you can’t ignore

Can hear every word she does say

Others’ space she seems to ignore

Wish I cared less what people say

*

Private phone calls you can’t ignore

Can hear every word she does say

Silently, please stop I implore

Can’t wait for the end of the day

Others’ space she seems to ignore

Wish I cared less what people say

*

Silently please stop I implore

Can’t wait for the end of the day

I really can’t take any more

I wonder how late she will stay

Others’ space she seems to ignore

Wish I cared less what people say

*

I really can’t take anymore

I wonder how late she will stay

Not sure we’ll develop rapport

I close my door with no delay

Others’ space she seems to ignore

Wish I cared less what people say

Night Blooming Cereus

_____________________________________

Single bloom filled the evening greenhouse with its scent

*

Glowing in its aloneness among the many greens

Warmed by heater, cooled by ridge vent

*

Oh so regal, a true hot house queen

*

The fragrance designed to lure moths and bats

*

Night time flyers privileged to see the show

Too bad this ecosystem is ruled by thermostat

*

This bloom moths and bats will never know

Cercidiphyllum japonicum

_____________________________________

Autumn is showing!

Magic is in the air

Colors are glowing

No season can compare

*

Magic is in the air

The fragrance of love

Is just everywhere

Below and above

*

Colors are glowing

Most everyone can see

Smell is mind blowing

Lost on so many

*

No season can compare

Vanilla filled sky

You miss if unaware

Not just for the eye.
