Fuzzy Planning

_____________________________________

Road trip dreams post work-day reality

Planning the vacation but not too much

Where might we bike hike kayak camp and such

So grateful for our commonality.

Work week starts and vacation brain sets in

With each passing day focus is lacking

Mind wanders to long days of backpacking

We can’t wait until the journey begins.

The week will go by too fast we are sure

Dreaming and planning extend our short break

Thinking of it each moment we’re awake

Oh, how many more workdays to endure?

We have maps and guides but won’t let them reign

There’s just one plan: to avoid the mundane.

Positivity is the buzz word

The mosquito is annoying

And there is no doubt about it

Perhaps we can live without it

With my patience they are toying

*

Masters of camping destruction

The mosquito is annoying

Being out I’m not enjoying

To avoid I need instruction

*

Surprisingly they do some good

Repellent I am deploying

The mosquito is annoying

Helping frogs into adulthood

*

I’ll think twice before destroying

Assisting with pollination

Now I say with hesitation

The mosquito is annoying

First Warm Weekend

Sitting by the fire gazing at the stars

A gap in the forest affords us the view

Tent in the clearing will sleep just us two.

*

For tonight this bit of nature is ours

Sitting by the fire gazing at the stars

A gap in the forest affords us the view

*

Sitting by the fire, warms as wood chars

Special moments like this are far too few

Spending time this way is what we should do

Sitting by the fire gazing at the stars

A gap in the forest affords us the view

Tent in the clearing will sleep just us two.

Change is on the way

Skunk cabbage! The first sign that spring

Is just a few sunsets away,

It’s mottled flowers reminding

To set the clocks forward timing

Transition to new kinds of play.

*

Near time to stow board and bindings

Pull tent and bike from where they stay

Prepare for warm weather hiking.

Don’t yet put snow gear in hiding

Maybe we’ll still have a snow day.
