Smells so Good… If I Remember

_____________________________________

My favorite fragrance bloomed today

But I forgot to smell it

Took its picture every which way

But I forgot to smell it

Posted the photos on all those public spaces

But I didn’t take time to smell it

Noticed it blooming in other places

But I didn’t take time to smell it

About life and flowers, how goes that phrase?

You have to take time to smell them

Thank goodness I have a few more days

To take time to stop and smell them

Plucky

Tiny seed settles in a crack

Dormant during the winter storms

Emerging from the dark tarmac

As the cold solid soil warms

*

Strongly choosing not to conform

Tiny seed settles in a crack

Seemingly bucking all the norms

Some folks may be taken aback

*

Of course there are a few drawbacks

But tradition doesn’t inform

Tiny seed settles in a crack

Persistently the plant performs

*

Through every season she transforms

For success she has quite the knack

While refusing to be uniform

Tiny seed settles in a crack.

Rumbling Relief

_____________________________________

The storms come finally on this hot humid day

Accompanied by thunder and lightning relief in the form of a torrential downpour

Electric disappears with a welcome gust of wind energy renewed with each drop hitting the ground

Sight seeing

_____________________________________

Watching fireworks through the trees

Flying flames highlighting lobed leaves

With every burst nature’s revealed

Pulsing as the embers cartwheel

Safe from the rain beneath the boughs

*

Still able to see all the wows

*

Watching folks high-end to low-brow

What brings crowds to watch explosions?

They’d run from dynamite or guns

Colorful blasts get aaaahs and ooohs

Somehow these explosions amuse.

The Longest Day

_____________________________________

With desire to view

The shortest night’s debut

We’re on the lake at twilight

From the seats of our boats

Time flying as we float

Sky shifts from washed-out to bright

A rainbow sans the arc

Daylight morphs into dark

We paddle into the night

He Loves Me He Loves Me Not

_____________________________________

He loves me, he loves me not he

Loves me, the white petals tell me

As they drift slowly to the ground

Falling to earth without a sound

Scattered all around, telling me our loves agree

*

No answer from the yellow core

The flower is useful no more

Have I wasted all its glory

Confirming my own love story

No longer in the garden for bees to adore?
