Positivity is the buzz word

_____________________________________

The mosquito is annoying

And there is no doubt about it

Perhaps we can live without it

With my patience they are toying

*

Masters of camping destruction

The mosquito is annoying

Being out I’m not enjoying

To avoid I need instruction

*

Surprisingly they do some good

Repellent I am deploying

The mosquito is annoying

Helping frogs into adulthood

*

I’ll think twice before destroying

Assisting with pollination

Now I say with hesitation

The mosquito is annoying

Cataract

_____________________________________

Water falls down

Gray and brown rocks

The sound roaring

Never boring

It’s pouring new spring rainfall

*

Summer brings drought

Drying out falls

Throughout hot days

Shining grays dull

Sluiceways no longer noisy

*

Icy cascade

Snow pack made fluid

Rocks fade under flow

Landing below

Where slow trickle brings new life.

Home Sweet Home

_____________________________________

Carolina wrens made a nest

Decided a tin can is best

To raise their brood

Now a bird house, not a tool shed

A place for songbirds to rest their heads

I provide food

*

Nest made of needles, leaves and moss

Tucked in next to the semi-gloss

Speckled eggs rest

Building’s been there less than a year

And these birds made it very clear

This shed is best.

Give Geese a Chance

_____________________________________

Some people think these geese a pest

Going so far to raid their nest.

Now I know they can be a pain

And if they’re around folks complain.

Honking, eating, pooping machines causing a stink

Need to be eradicated some people think.

*

Give geese a chance, stop and observe

At one time we tried to conserve

These special V-flying creatures

With distinct black and white features.

Living two decades, long flyers, long time romance

Good parents who care for the weak, give geese a chance.

Night Fliers

_____________________________________

Flattened against the house wall

Moths appear on warming nights

Electric duping instinct

Hunkered under bright porch lights

*

Not dull or boring at all

Butterflies with evening flight

Flecked, ruffled each one distinct

Look closely, they will delight.

Wildflower Wander

_____________________________________

With my sweetheart Wandering winded along a

Winding wooded path of

Waving wild flowers in the

Warming weather without

Worry and wearing wonder welcoming the

Wisdom of this wildflower wilderness and

Woodland with towering white oak.

Services

Church and me ain’t never been close

Nature is my spiritual house

My fellows bugs and tree and mouse

*

I find the rhetoric morose

Jack in his pulpit speaks to me

Where he stands is where I’ll be

*

Frankly I avoid the pathos

Marigolds are my church choir

Passion flower is the friar

*

I don’t get the religiose

Assumption lilies are my text

And crown of thorns guide what’s next

*

There’s no need for the grandiose

Soft lady’s mantle comforts me

Where nature preaches I will be.

Blue hole in a gray sky

_____________________________________

Why did the gray clouds

Open to reveal blue skies

We don’t see anywhere else?

*

The lonely jack sighed

Wishing to play in the sun

Mother said “Dear, it shall come.”

Don’t Judge

_____________________________________

Is that purple violet a weed?

No, Indeed!

*

Is the dandelion a pest?

Surely you jest!

*

What do I see in these beauties?

Precious cuties!

*

Let’s stop being so plant snooty

Stop judging every small flower

Without knowing its great power

No indeed, surely you jest! Precious cuties!
